Royal Childhood at Buckingham Palace

‘From well-loved toys and treasured family gifts to tiny childhood outfits, a special exhibition at Buckingham Palace will give an unprecedented glimpse into life as a young member of the royal family growing up at Buckingham Palace.’ I’m a very lucky girl indeed as once again I was invited along to a special blogger’s preview of the new Royal Childhood exhibition at Buckingham Palace along with a chance to wander through the state rooms without the usual hoards of people all craning for a view of the same thing and generally getting in the way. A visit to Buckingham Palace […]

In 1714 George I ascended the throne as the first British monarch of the German House of Hanover. At the Cheapside Hoard exhibition preview, Museum of London. Photo: Suzy Nightingale. Wow, what a busy and action packed year it has been – full of all manner of historical treats and excitements! However, here is my poor effort, such as it is… Detail from a portrait of Anne of Denmark. Photo: Melanie Clegg. 1. In Fine […]

Royal Collection 2014

The Royal Collection have just announced their programme of exhibitions for 2014 and I have to say it’s a bit exciting! First of all is the brilliant news that this year’s wonderful In Fine Style: The Art of Tudor and Stuart Fashion will be moving to the Queen’s Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh from the 14th of March until the 20th of July. This is really excellent news as this was a truly outstanding exhibition that showcased some of the most powerful, sumptuous and gorgeous examples of sixteenth and seventeenth century royal portraiture and it really deserves […]

In Fine Style – a superb Tudor and Stuart exhibition

Photo: Melanie Clegg. I was lucky enough to be invited to the blogger’s preview yesterday morning of the new exhibition In Fine Style: The Art of Tudor and Stuart Fashion at the Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace. It must surely be testament to how thoroughly excited I was about this exhibition that I did not at all begrudge getting up at 3.30am to get there for the 9am start and proof of how ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT it is that I think it was an entirely well spent effort.
