Berlin – Part Two

We woke up bright and early on our second morning in Berlin and after some deliberation decided to head off to Museum Island to partake in some CULTURE. After eyeing the queue to get into the Pergamon, we decided instead to visit the rather less busy Neues Museum, which houses the iconic bust of Nefertiti. This turned out to be a really good idea as the Neues is an amazing museum, stuffed full of wonderful pieces such as some of the most beautiful Egyptian sculpture you could ever hope to see in your life, some of Schliemann’s controversial ‘Trojan treasure’ […]

Berlin – Part One

When it comes to history, there are few cities with such a chequered and fascinating past as Berlin. I’ve wanted to visit for a really long time but had been vaguely put off by friends’ accounts of a grim concrete wilderness and endless building sites as the newly prosperous and unified city pulled itself together. However, as time went on, I started hearing different reports about Berlin and how beautiful and interesting is and once again my interest was raised and I put it to the top of my Must Visit List. Imagine my joy therefore when my rather nice […]

Woo Berlin!

I MAY be a bit over excited right now as my completely AMAZING husband whom I love VERY much announced yesterday that he’s taking me to Berlin for SIX DAYS for my birthday (and our anniversary which cunningly falls three days later) WITHOUT THE CHILDREN this October. Okay, I’m going to have to wait nine months before it actually happens but I’m a rabid list writer and planner and darn well NEED all those months to prepare and also brush up my GCSE level German for the occasion. I haven’t actually been to Germany since a hideous school trip to […]

Business as usual

Some Lake District views. The scenery was awe inspiring. Hello there! I am now back from my hols and raring to go again! How have you all been? It feels like ages since I last typed into this reasonably sized box. Anyway, I have some proper blog posts coming up this week about various things that I have done over the last fortnight but here’s a rather lazily put together taster of what’s to come and a bit of tiresome mimsy about what we’ve been up to! Alnwick Castle and Aira Force waterfall. The highlights of the holiday for me […]

Holiday Time!

As I MAY have mentioned once or twice in the last week or so, we are heading off to our holiday in the Lake District tomorrow morning! Hurrah. However, this does mean that there probably won’t be any new blog posts here until I return in a fortnight’s time no doubt brimming over with news about the progress of From Whitechapel, photos of weird stuff and tales of our visits to Edinburgh, Alnwick and God only knows where else. I suspect I’m going to feel somewhat bereft without my blog but then again I really need some time off and […]

This Week

My two stones award from Slimming World! My new GIN necklace from Tatty Devine. The perfect summer scent – Eau Moheli by Diptyche. The Cath Kidston Gromit. It’s been a bit of a busy one at Guillotine Towers as we’re off on holiday at the weekend! We’re not going anywhere exotic – just spending a fortnight in Cumbria (on the edge of the Lake District) so that I can finish From Whitechapel and visit Alnwick Castle and Edinburgh. It’s going to be lovely. Anyway, this means that I’ve been winding down the blog a bit at the moment and also […]
