Poldark competition!

I am still so in love with the recent BBC adaptation of Poldark that I had a dream about it last night. Not that I’m complaining, mind as after all, who wouldn’t want to have a period costumed Aidan Turner holding hands with them during the night? Exactly. In my dream I told him how he almost hit my husband with his bike on the Bristol Harbourside (true) and then I sat near him at the BFI Poldark screening but I was too scared to say hello (also true) and he put a finger on my lips and just said, […]

Phryne Fisher Fashion

I have now run out of Miss Fisher’s Murders episodes to watch and probably have one hell of a wait to endure before the third season of Phryne Fisher’s escapades land on Netflix. Sad times. I’m consoling myself with the books, which are very entertaining but so very different to the series that they’re just making me feel even more wistful, probably because they’re missing all the things that make me love the show so much – that frisson with Jack, Aunt Prudence, the sweet romance between Dot and Hugh (it’s not quite so super sweet in the books) and […]

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

Who doesn’t love a really good Netflix binge? I know that I certainly do! We don’t actually watch normal terrestrial television because ugh reality shows and adverts and yuck (I make very rare exceptions for the likes of Peaky Blinders, Poldark, Wolf Hall, Game of Thrones and Ripper Street, which I watch on catchup an hour after everyone else has already watched and stopped talking about it on Twitter) but I’m really seriously attached to my Netflix subscription, which also coincidentally feeds into my serious lack of patience as it means that I can just binge on an entire series […]

Wolf Hall – 1. Three Card Trick

Well, like no doubt millions of people I tuned in last night for the first episode of the long awaited BBC adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies (Thomas Cromwell Trilogy Book 2). As you might imagine, as a HUGE fan of the books and the RSC play, I was pretty much pre-disposed to absolutely love the television series too but there was still a tiny little sneaking worry there too. I mean, what if I HATED it? What then? However, I’m pleased (and very relieved!) to report that I really loved it and can’t wait […]

Ripper Street Season Three

It’s hard to believe that just a year has passed since the end of the second season of Ripper Street and the terrible news that the stupid BBC had decided to cancel what was one of the best series on television. Thankfully all of the resultant fuss and campaigning paid off and the show was taken over by Amazon instead to be screened on Amazon Prime and then repeated by the BBC in early 2015. I was pleased as punch about all of this and especially when I heard that the new season would have a much bigger budget and […]
